Manual Lymphatic Drainage

At BODY & FACE WORKS we are qualified and experienced practitioners of Vodder Method MLD.

Dr Vodder's Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a rhythmic, harmonious and gentle skin technique performed following specific rules to stimulate the lymph system, vital to the defence of the body and removing waste products.

We will work with you through the course of treatment and guide you on how to continue your self-treatment.

MLD is both preventative and remedial and can enhance your well being.

MLD:

  • is deeply relaxing,
  • promotes the healing of fractures, torn ligaments, sprains and lessens pain,
  • can improve many chronic conditions: sinusitus, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, acne and other skin conditions, migraine and chronic headache,
  • can help sufferers of Tinnitus and acute hearing loss
  • may strenghthen the immune system,
  • relieves fluid congestion: swollen ankles, tired puffy eyes and swollen legs due to pregnancy,
  • relieves habitual constipation,
  • is an effective component of the treatment and control of lymphoedema and assists in conditions arising from venous insufficiency,
  • promotes healing of wounds and burns and improves the appearance of old scars, and
  • minimises or reduces stretch marks.

History of MLD

During the early 1930's, Dr Emil Vodder created a unique range of movements which brought relief from chronic conditions such as sinus congestion and catarrh. Since Vodder's pioneering work, MLD has spread world wide and has become a popular treatment in many European hospitals and clinics.

In the UK, it is becoming one of the primary treatments for Lymphoedema.

Lymphoedema is a swelling that can affect any part of the body, although it is most commonly seen in an arm or leg. this condition develops when the lymph system, the delicate vessels of the draining nodes, can no longer work effectively.

Fluid, protein and toxins build up in the tissues. The skin becomes dry and thickened and the affected part feels tight and firm.

Primary Lymphoedema is either congenital or spontaneous, a result of an inherited abnormality of the lymphatic and venous system.

Secondary Lymphoedema is caused by damage to the lymphatic system and can develop as a result of:

  • Mastectomy
  • Hysterectomy
  • Radiotherapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Injury or Accident
  • Infection
  • Immobility
